Piccolo Forno

Last weekend, I headed to Pittsburgh to do some apartment hunting. Since this will be my new home, I felt it equally as important to do some restaurant hunting. I decided to look up some Youtube videos about good places to eat in Pittsburgh. I stumbled upon a "Cheap Eats" video that covered Piccolo Forno, located in Pittsburgh's Strip District. After studying the menu, I went with something safe: Lasagna Toscana. Although it wasn't exactly cheap ($17), the price ranges of the restaurant are fairly low compared to the other fine dining restaurants along the street. I decided not to take the meal to-go due to a long wait time. When I got back to my hotel I opened up the heavy foil container and saw this beauty before me:

From the first bite, I knew this was a good decision. The pasta had a nice balance of marinara and béchamel sauce. My dad and I ended up splitting the meal since it was so filling (I guess it was a "cheap eat" after all). It truly blew me away. This lasagna was even comparable to my favorite restaurant in Rome, Origano Trevi. I was inconsolable after I left Rome because I knew I would never be able to taste lasagna that heavenly ever again. Much to my surprise and delight, I will have a piece of Rome in my own backyard. Shout out to Pittsburgh and it's high Italian population. I know I won't go hungry in this city.
